SCHOOL NEWS HEADLINES
In order to keep our students safe and to comply with district policy, please be prepared to show identification any time you need to pick up a student during the school day. A student may only be released to individuals who are listed on his/her Student Information card.

In the event a student must be picked up by someone who is not specifically listed on this card, please fax the name of the individual and their driver's license number to 570-3505.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
PENNIES FOR PATIENTS
Beginning on February 8 and continuing until February 26, the National Junior Honor Society will be collecting donations for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Collection boxes are located throughout the school.

All students are encouraged to make a donation to this cause.
HAT DAY
On Friday, February 12, students are invited to wear their favorite hat to school and make a donation to A.B.L.E. (Assisting Better Living Everywhere), a non-profit organization that focuses on helping improve living and learning conditions in less fortunate countries.
DYAMI DANCER PARENT MEETING
All students interested in participating in the Dyami Dancer program for the 2010 - 2011 school year must attend the mandatory parent / daughter meeting on February 22 in the cafeteria at 6 PM.
CHEERLEADER PARENT MEETING
All students interested in participating in the CRMS cheerleading program for the 2010-2011 school year must attend the mandatory student/ parent meeting on February 23 in the caferteria at 6:30 PM. Anyone who is not able to attend this meeting may attend the meeting at Running Brushy Middle School on February 22 at 6:30 PM.
TAKS TEST
On Wednesday, March 3, seventh grade students will take the writing portion of the TAKS test.

Parents are encouraged to reschedule medical or other appointments to allow theis students to complete this test. There are no make-up dates for this section.
FLEX SCHEDULE
During the fourth and fifth six-week grading periods (January 19 until April 23) all students will be on a FLEX schedule. In order to accommodate the extra period each day, lunch periods have moved. During this time, the new lunch schedule is:

Sixth grade: 12:35 - 1:05 PM
Seventh grade: 11:05 - 11:35 AM
Eighth grade: 11:50 - 12:20 PM

On April 26, students will return to the regular schedule.
ENGINEERING SUMMER PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at The University of Texas at Austin is now accepting applications for its summer program for middle school girls: Careers in Engineering for Women. This residential program is designed to introduce students to engineering. The long-term goal of CEW is to increase the representation of women in the field of engineering. During this unique, interactive and fun weeklong experience, CEW participants will put their math and science skills to practical use.
Careers in Engineering for Women:
. Residential summer camp for girls currently in 6th or 7th grade
. Weeklong session held June 13-19, 2010 on UT Austin campus
. Forty exceptional middle school students will be accepted to attend
During CEW, participants will explore different aspects of engineering through hands-on activities and challenges. The girls will work in teams to design, construct, and implement solutions to exciting engineering problems. Students will also interact with industry personnel, Cockrell School of Engineering faculty, and energetic UT Austin engineering students.

TRANSPORTATION CHANGES
Due to overcrowding on buses No. 254, 257, 261 and 281, there is no room for additional riders. Until further notice, no passes will be issued to any student to ride on one of these buses.

A student who usually rides on one of these buses may not bring friends on the bus with him/her.
CELL PHONES
Cell phones may not be seen, turned on or used between 8 AM and 4:05 PM. if seen, cell phones will be taken up and turned in to the assistant principals' office. All confiscated cell phones must be picked up by a parent. Cell phones WILL NOT be released to students. After the first confiscation, students will receive additional consequences.

Parents, if you need to contact your child for any reason, including emergencies, please call the main office at 570-3500 and we will make sure your child receives the message promptly.
Please do not text or call your child's phone. You put your child at risk of getting in trouble!

CELL PHONES IN SCHOOL ZONES
Effective September 1, 2009, you may be ticketed for talking on a cell phone which is not hands-free or texting while in a school zone.
DRESS CODE
Students may not wear shirts with low necklines. Students' skirts, shorts and shorts must be at or below the middle of the thigh. Hats may not be worn anywhere on campus -- inside or out -- during school hours or inside during extra-curricular activities. Shorts must have an inseam of at least five inches. Anything else is out of dress code.

YEARBOOK
Yearbooks are available for sale online until April 15, 2010 for $35 each. Any books which are unsold after April 15 may be purchased on the last day of school for $40.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Students are encouraged not to bring items such as iPods, MP3 players and portable DVD players to school. These items may not be used during the school day. They are small, valuable and difficult for students to secure. If these items are turned in to the office, parents will be required to pick them up. Please remember that in the event these items are lost or stolen, the school is not liable.
COORDINATED APPROACH TO CHILD HEALTH
The CATCH Middle School Program is a resource for bringing schools, families, and communities together to work toward creating a healthy school environment.

CATCH is a Coordinated Program designed to promote physical activity, healthy food choices in the middle school setting as well as at home.
